Big hearted little girl cuts her tresses to raise funds for cancer patients

Here’s a heart-warming story for a miserable wet Sunday morning – as a member of the Loving Life Choir, eight year-old Bridgie Quigley from Dowth has the voice of an angel, but recently she proved she has the heart of an angel also.

When Bridgie’s Mam Gemma told her about the importance of hospices and how they help sick children and how other children donate their hair to make wigs for people undergoing chemotherapy, Bridgie was intrigued.

When she heard about the “Locks of Love for Laura Lynn” initiative which raises vital funds for children with life-limiting conditions Bridgie had no hesitation in taking part.

Over the next three months, she grew her hair as long as possible before launching her fundraiser in January. To date, she has raised over €1,160, a testament to her dedication and the generosity of her community.

Last Thursday, with the support of Golden Touch Hairdressers in Slane, who kindly donated the haircut, Bridgie proudly made the big chop. She is delighted to be contributing to such an important cause – and we all love her new look!

Giving back runs in Bridgie’s family. Her granny, Penny McGowan, was the driving force behind Ireland’s Pink Ribbon Walks, raising over €1 million for cancer research and support services. It is clear that Bridgie is following in her granny’s footsteps, carrying on a legacy of kindness and making a real difference.

“The Loving Life Choir is very proud of Bridgie and her inspiring efforts and her remarkable act of generosity and compassion” said a choir spokesperson. “We admire her generosity and are so proud to have her as part of our choir family.”
