Drogheda and District AC road runners were out in force at the Duleek and District AC 5k Road race on Sunday and took advantage of the opportunity to join some hot competition from neighbouring counties for a fast and fun race.
Liam Mulligan made a welcome return to racing as he joined the lead group at the start and pushed hard, finishing with a very good third place overall in 15:47.
Paul Kierans made good progress finishing with an impressive 18:31. Clearly the training is paying off for Paul and the men’s team was unlucky being narrowly beaten to second place.
James Carton was 29th finishing in 18:59. Jordi Romera was pleased with his second race of the year this time finishing in 19:00, as was Shane Larkin (19:16). There was strong running from Derek Hackett and John Perkins who finished in sub 20 times. Also good to see Paul Brady back running well, completing the race in 20:24. Alan Foley was all smiles as he finished in 20:40.

First lady for the club was Pamela Howard with a nice 21:45. Not far back was Ciara O'Reilly in 22:17 and Roisin McGeough hit a new PB finishing in 23:05 rounding off a wonderful event in Duleek.
There were strong performances also at the BHAA Central Bank 6k cross country in Tallaght on Saturday. Fresh from her world record performance the previous week, Nuala Reilly ran a very good race finishing in 33.12. Olivia Reilly deserves full honours for her efforts (34.330, with Gerry Mullins just behind her in 34.43 and Conor Cooney completing the race in 41.12.
Also on Saturday morning a group of four talented runners from D&DAC made the trip north to the Fitzers 5K in Dundalk. This 5k takes the runners from the Marshes Shopping Centre along the charming streets near the historic old town centre.
Colin Dyas ran an excellent race finishing in 16:52, good enough for seventh place overall amongst strong competition. Fatih Zitouche had a strong run finishing in 19:22 and also running at the Duleek 5k on Sunday in 19:40. Yasmin Canning was delighted to finish in 19:56, and Alan Floyd completed the race in 26:12.
Lastly, at the National Seniors Indoor Championships on Saturday Christopher Keenan was unlucky to lose some momentum as there was some jostling in the race but nevertheless ran the metric mile in a superfast 4:01.71.
