People Before Profit representative James Renaghan.
People Before Profit representative in Louth, James Reneghan, has called for local TDs to support a People Before Profit-Solidarity Dáil motion calling for a 10-point action plan to tackle gender based violence which will be debated and voted on by TDs on Wednesday, 26th February.
“We have an epidemic of gender based violence. Six women have been killed already in 2025 and there were 1,600 reports of domestic violence over Christmas week” Renaghan said.
“On Wednesday morning, Ruth Coppinger TD of People Before Profit-Solidarity will introduce a motion in the Dáil that will call for a 10-point program to tackle gender based violence.
“The motion will include calls for the outlawing of character references in cases of gender based violence cases and for defence legal teams to be prevented from having access to survivors’ counselling notes.

“The motion also calls for the introduction of a domestic violence register to make information available to anyone feeling at risk from their partner so they can find out if their partner has a conviction for domestic violence.
“The People Before Profit-Solidarity motion will be voted on in the Dáil this Wednesday evening and I urge people to contact local TDs to call on them to vote in favour of this important motion.
“In addition, I want to express my support for the call made by gender based violence survivors for protests and marches for justice for survivors on international women’s day 8th March”.
