First time in Drogheda - an action packed night of OTT wrestling

Front Page

For the first time in over 17 years, a major pro wrestling event is coming to Drogheda during Easter weekend bringing with them a night of action, entertainment, and some of the best professional wrestlers in Europe.

Set for Saturday, April 19th in O’Raghallaighs GAA Hall on The North Road, the event kicks off at 7pm, Over The Top Wrestling (OTT) welcomes all ages and families to their event in hopes that people who love wrestling will see future stars, and those who may not be familiar with pro wrestling, walk away with a newfound love of the art.

Local pro wrestler Keith Dunne, who performs as Calum Black, is delighted to get an event so close to home. “I meet so many people who travel to the shows in Dublin and Belfast from the town that I was confident a show would succeed here. I love this town, and there are so many talented people that are putting in the effort to revive the town's nightlife and organise events in Drogheda and things to do that are more than getting your phone fixed or a coffee, I wanted to help add to it.”

Over The Top Wrestling is Ireland’s premiere pro wrestling promotion, and one of the largest promotions in Europe. It started in 2014 as an alternative to the American organizations seen on TV. OTT frequently holds events in the Europa Hotel in Belfast, The Spiegeltent in Wexford, and in The National Stadium in Dublin, selling out over 2200 seats each time.

These events have hosted talents such as current WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, current WWE World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER, “The Hardcore Legend” Mick Foley, and the first WWE Universal Champion, Ireland’s own Finn Bálor.

The company is also the home promotions for talents that have gone on to become superstars in WWE and abroad such as former WWE Cruiserweight and WWE Tag Team Champion JD McDonagh, who was the OTT Heavyweight Champion, and the first WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Lyra Valkyria who was OTT’s Women’s champion.

Other OTT stars who have found success abroad include “Session Moth” Martina who has had massive success across Europe, Japan, and America, even making appearances on AEW. And LJ Cleary, who has had massive success across Europe, and frequently touring with Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan.

“Pro Wrestling has never been bigger, especially with WWE now being on Netflix.” says Keith, “There's still a majority who are unaware how big it is in Ireland, and how we are leading the charge in terms of talent. There are independent shows all over the country that run so frequently that feature some amazing talents that will be future stars, and I hope this event is a small step towards making people aware of that. I hope people who love watching wrestling on Netflix, or who loved wrestling at some point in their life, will come out and support local independent shows, and those who maybe have little to no idea of what wrestling is will take a chance and have their minds opened to something new.”

The events line-up includes local Calum Black, who will be taking on one of the best talents in Europe, from Birmingham, Omari. The event also features current OTT Tag Team Champions The Social Elite, Liamo, and more to be announced.

Tickets can be purchased online at universe.com/ottdrogheda and more information regarding the event can be found by following Over The Top Wrestling on social media or emailing fans@ottwrestling.com

Over The Top Wrestling is Ireland’s largest pro wrestling promotion running for 11 years. They host massive pro wrestling events that sell out venues such as The National Stadium and The Ambassador theatre in Dublin. It has been instrumental in creating some of WWEs current superstars such as GUNTHER, JD McDonagh, Lyra Valkyria, and Pete Dunne. OTT is committed to a night entertainment, immersion, and action for all ages.
