Third place winner Kathryn Meade being chased down by Mary leech No.1 and Beatrice Cunningham No. 11.
A ladies only relay race which took place at the Lourdes stadium last week with over 50 teenage girls and masters athletes from Drogheda & District Athletic Club taking part was a huge success.
Altogether some 55 women and girls took part, most of whom had never passed a baton or ran a relay race before. They came together in a relaxed, non-pressured, fun event to make up 11 teams of 5 ladies and teenagers, all from Drogheda & District Athletics club making it one of the biggest women in sports events in our club and possibly our county.
Each participant was awarded a certificate of achievement and the first three teams received a medal. The race was won by Sophie Kinsella who powered her way around the track on the final 600m leg taking gold for her team consisting of Jenny Gregory, Roisin King, Niamh Bergin and Dani Nolan.
She was followed by Dearbla Johnston who ran a stormer for her team including Emily Cooney, Margo Duffy, Lily Fitzharris, Sharon Leslie securing second place while close behind was Kathryn Meade claiming 3rd place for her team including Emily Garvey, Marisa Mc Hugh, Mary King and Olivia Reilly.

It was an event where both lads and ladies pulled together while Liam Reilly did a superb job making sure everything went smoothly, sealing it as a memorable occasion for the club.
The organiser of the event, Mary Ann Kinsella, said it was fantastic to see ladies of all ages and abilities come together on the track.
Overall winner Sophie Kinsella heading for the finish line ahead of Dearbhla Johnson in second.
“Everyone brought energy, passion and a great team spirit” she said. “I'm proud to have organised the event and so grateful for the incredible support and help from club members, which made it all possible.
“Together, we created a fun, competitive space where women could connect, push themselves, and celebrate the power of community in sport. The excitement doesn't stop there because Next up is the Drogheda 10k on the May Bank Holiday weekend, it's all happening at DDAC!"
