Drogheda & District AC member, Tadgh Donnelly from Clogherhead smashed his personal best while leading the Iona University men's outdoor track team at the 10,000m Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, North Carolina on Thursday night.

Tadgh set an incredible time of 28.40 which beat his previous personal best by 41 seconds which means he can now claim the fifth place in the ranks of the fastest 10,000 runner of all time for Iona, and 25th in the prestigious NCAA for 2025.

Drogheda aces Dominic Branigan and Fiona McKenna sizzled on the sand dunes at the Laytown parkrun Branigan breezed around the 5k in a time of 20:18, while McKenna turned on the style as first lady in a time of 22:09. Gavin Bruce also had an impressive personal best (25:56) - great running from the long distance specialists, and very smart as they use the parkun to sharpen up for their longer goals later in the year.

There were personal bests for many at the Lifestyle Dundalk Half marathon and 10k on Sunday also. The scenic half marathon started and finished at the Dundalk Town Centre twisting and turning around the streets of our neighbouring city with the fabulous mountains of Mourne and estuary in the background. Conditions were pleasantly sunny, with a slight breeze.

Alan Foley cruised around town and put away a nice personal best (42:36) - Foley has been going from strength to strength this season and there is much more to come for him.

New members Silvania Barbosa and Juliana Caetano showed fabulous determination to get around together - Silvania in 1:06:19 with Juliana one second behind.

Aoife Mundow enjoyed what is a very flat course for the mountain specialist with a time of 1:41:51 Club stalwart Niamh Matthews took it all in her stride as always and finished in a nice time, 1:47:37.

John Perkins is beginning to flourish at the half marathon distance as he set a personal best time of 1:34:26. The half marathon course included a hill at the Newry Road which had to be respected.

John - a man who loves his running - reveals how it all started with the Drogheda 10K - "the buzz of that race got me hooked" he said, however he warns that getting out for those runs is essential. Don't worry though - there's still one month of training to go before the 2025 Drogheda 10K so let’s get out there and enjoy the road to this year’s Drogheda 10K!

Drogheda & District were proud to support Empowering Eamonn - 17 teams ran a relay race from Skerries to Tullyallen and we're delighted to congratulate Jane Glynn who ran the entire leg on her amazing achievement.
