The Mill Enterprise Hub played host to a standout international business event yesterday, March 31st, as part of The Mill’s Business Beyond Borders USA series. A delegation from Ohio joined over 100 enthusiastic entrepreneurs from across the northeast of Ireland to explore opportunities for Irish businesses aiming to expand into the US market.

One of the standout sessions focused on selecting the right state for market entry. Killian Cawley of OCO Global, provided the companies with a detailed overview of the key considerations and mistakes to avoid when entering the US market.

Attendees gained practical knowledge about doing business in both New York and Ohio, with a particular spotlight on Ohio’s business-friendly environment. The Ohio delegation delivered a compelling presentation on the advantages of doing business in their state — from a supportive economic environment to an in-depth concierge service dedicated to helping Irish companies land and grow. Their visit sparked strong interest from attendees keen to explore Ohio’s potential as a gateway to the US.

The event featured a series of informative sessions and panel discussions, including a keynote from Ken Cahill, CEO of Silvercloud Health, who shared the inspiring story of his company’s successful expansion into the US and its acquisition by Amwell, along with his insight from lessons learned on his experience.

Legal experts from Clarke Hill Legal Advisors led a lively and practical panel discussion addressing some of the key legal considerations for businesses entering the US. Topics ranged from contract structuring and employment law to immigration pathways and visa requirements — offering valuable clarity for companies preparing to navigate the complexities of transatlantic growth.

Attendees also heard from Enterprise Ireland, with Director of the Americas Aidan McKenna highlighting strategic insights for selecting the right US state. Martin Duffy, co-founder of Hibernia Venture Labs, spoke on building a strong management team and accessing the right supports to scale effectively.

The event which was sponsored by Louth Council was brought to a close by Louth County Cathaoirleach Kevin Callan. The event was widely praised for its energy, practical takeaways, and valuable networking. Following its success, The Mill will host Business Beyond Borders UK this September — supporting companies looking to grow into the UK market.
