The derelict site on the North Road in Drogheda.
Sinn Féin Councillor Debbie McCole has commended Louth County Council for their prompt action over her request for action to be taken on a derelict site on the North Road which has become a magnet for illegal dumping.
The property at the corner of North Road and Cross Lanes has been empty for some time and unfortunately a tree feel across the entrance and wasn’t removed.
Cllr McCole said “the tree falling meant the property was somewhat hidden from the view so a number of people took advantage of this and discarded their unwanted items and rubbish there. It has become a magnet for illegal dumping which if ignored will attract vermin.

“I raised this with Louth County Council and they have issued a Derelict Site Notice for the property which in effect gives the owner 32 days to carry out the necessary works to address the dereliction. If these works are not carried out, the owners will face an annual levy of 7% of the market value of the property.”
Cllr Cole thanked the Council for their swift action saying, “keeping our community safe and clean is a priority and illegal dumping has become a blight to this county.”
