Drogheda and District master athletes were at it again this week, breaking world records that is!

Nuala Reilly stunned the local Athletics scene as she made it two World records in two weeks - this time with the W65 Irish Ladies broke the World record in the 4x400m at in the National Indoor Arena, Sport Ireland Campus, Dublin.

Meanwhile, Mary-Ann Kinsella - who has recently taken to track racing, was simply inspiring as she ran an amazing leg with the Irish relay team breaking the W60 4x400m World record.

Dani Nolan with her Leinster indoor silver medal.

And after these incredible performances many D&DAC athletes went on to achieve medals in the Leinster Indoor Championships 2025 in Abbottstown in the following days.

Mary Kinsella -still on a high from her world beating run during the week took the gold medal for W60 200m in 33.35, and then showed her steely determination in the 400m as well, reeling in her opponent just after the end of the first lap and edging past on the final straight to clinch a marvellous silver on the line in a superfast 1.16.61.

Gerry O'Connor showed sheer class in the 400m and having had a sensational opening 100m to take the lead, absolutely demolished the rest of the field with a superb 1.02.87. Mary Flanagan was first in W65 60m in 12.86.

Martin Russel and Joe Carroll Carlingford half 25.

Robbie Keane excelled in his first attempt at the M45 1500m taking gold in 4.26.03. Paddy Murphy had an excellent day and took gold in the M55 3000m in 11.34.

Dani Nolan very smartly made it through the heats and semi-finals to finish 2nd in both of her races (60m & 200m )while sister Keeley also impressed as part of the U12 4x200m team that were unlucky finishing 2nd in their heat, just missing out on a place in the final.

Silver was a good consolation for the Men's 400m Relay team that had set a new club record and secured bronze in the men’s 4×400m at the National Senior Indoor Championships the previous Sunday. Making up the team were Andrew Kelly, Jordan Kelly, Shane Smyth who stepped in at last minute for Louis O'Shea and Cormac Canning.

Silver medal winners in the Mens 4x400m relay team.

Andrew got the team off to a good start and he had a good strong opening 400m, Jordan took the baton cleanly and his run was good enough to narrow the tiny lead that Raheny AC had taken in the first leg, and Cormac pushed very well in the third leg keeping the pressure up all the time, meanwhile Shane had a standout last leg lapping third place Metro St Brigid's AC ith a killer finish that almost caught Raheny, however it just wasn't enough on the day.

Elsewhere four of our seasoned road runners took on the challenge of the Carlingford half marathon on Saturday, and the fair weather was much to their liking. Martin Russell had a strong run (01:33:15) as did Joe Carroll (01:46:42), Seamus Roe 01:56:58 and Mike Staunton (01:58:01)

There was strong running also at the Lusk 4 Mile 2025 on Sunday. Shane Larkin had a nice run (24:13)as did John Perkins (26:06) and Frank Brady (38:18).

Meanwhile in the US Tadgh Donnelly continues to go from strength to strength as he captured first place in the 5,000m race in a very good 14.14, only to follow this up with a win in the 3000m in 8.01. The proud Louth man made such an impression that he was awarded Athlete of the meet.

Last but not least, our 'couch to 5K' group took part in the Laytown parkrun on Saturday, and the following day Olivia Reilly celebrated her birthday in style at the  BHAA in Abbottstown on the National Cross Country course with Mum Nuala and Gerry Mullins.
