Byrne calls for Lourdes Stadium pitch to be put back into use by local clubs

Councillor James Byrne has called on Louth County Council through the Local Sports Partnership to open up the pitch at the Lourdes stadium once again for use by local clubs.

“I have been contacted by representatives of different sporting clubs in need of playing facilities and feel that the green space inside the running track could be the solution they are looking for” he said.

“As someone who played competitive football on the pitch in the not too distant past I feel we are not getting the best use of this asset. Any and all obstacles in the path of re-purposing the playing field must be re-examined.

“I know the great work that the Louth Local Sports Partnership team does across the county in seeking to increase participation in sport and physical activity as well as ensuring that local resources are used to best effect. This must be acknowledged.

“I also know work is ongoing regarding the provision of additional relief cover to extend opening hours of the Lourdes Stadium, including on a Sunday.

“All I would ask is that a renewed focus is placed on maximising the potential of the Lourdes stadium - track and field - and that every effort is put in to respond to the needs of local sports clubs
