Louth to the Coast: Big Beach Clean Seeks More Volunteers for September 19th-21st

Front Page

Over 450 volunteers in County Louth have already signed up to join the Big Beach Clean 2025, which takes place from September 19th to 21st.

This annual event is part of the International Coastal Cleanup, a global initiative to remove marine litter and contribute to vital research.

With the deadline for registration fast approaching, this is a final reminder for individuals and groups to sign up before midnight on Sunday, September 7th.

By registering, you can receive a free clean-up kit and make a positive impact on the Irish coast and waterways.

The Big Beach Clean, supported by Kia Ireland, has already seen over 7,000 volunteers sign up nationwide.

Last year, around 400 volunteers in Louth removed an estimated 2.3 tonnes of litter.

This year, organisers are hoping to continue that momentum and encourage more citizen science action by recording litter data.

By taking part, volunteers are contributing to global marine litter research, with the data helping to shape international policies.

Insights from previous clean-ups in Ireland have led to campaigns like 'Bin the Butt' and 'Break Up With Plastic.'

An Taisce’s Clean Coasts Manager, Bronagh Moore, said she was delighted to see so many volunteers getting involved, including groups from inland counties. "Together we are making a real tangible difference to our coastlines," she said.

Cathal Kealey from Kia Ireland also encouraged as many people as possible to register for a local beach clean, highlighting the brand's commitment to carbon neutrality and combating ocean pollution.
