Front Page

Drogheda & District AC athletes have delivered a series of strong performances in recent weeks, with members achieving success at national, regional, and local events.

At the BNM Tullamore Harriers National and Leinster Half Marathon Championship, Colin Leonard secured a Leinster bronze medal. Despite the course's difficult hills, he finished 15th overall among over 500 competitors, crossing the line in 1:13:15.

Meanwhile, in Waterford, Barry Foley made his single-race debut for Drogheda & District AC, triumphing at the Greenway Half Marathon 2025. He finished in a terrific time of 1:21:45, placing 23rd overall and 2nd among men from outside Munster. Luke Judge also ran a fine race, finishing in 1:26:03.

August brought the 2025 track and field season to a close for the club's juveniles. The month featured the Boyne and Ardee sports days, which award points toward the Louth County juvenile Athlete of the Year.

At the Boyne Track & Field Day on August 10th, 25 athletes from the club competed, winning 11 sprint, 7 middle-distance, and 3 relay medals. Eve Cunningham delivered a blistering final 70 metres to win the Girls U-11 400m. In the Girls U-14 800m, Hannah Cunningham narrowly defeated her main rival, Isobelle Winters, in what was considered a highlight race of the day.

At the Ardee Sports Day on August 17th, the club collected 6 sprint, 5 middle-distance, 3 field, and 3 relay medals. Top performances came from Clodagh Johnston, who finished third in the Girls U-14 800m, and Daisy Monaghan, who placed third in the U-9 Turbo Javelin with a throw of 8.62m. In the Boys U-8 60m, Seimi Johnson was a convincing winner.

Drogheda & District AC had nine athletes representing Louth at the National Community Games finals in Carlow on August 22nd and 23rd.

Three of the club's six sprint athletes reached the finals, a very tough process that requires athletes to qualify through heats and a semi-final on the day.

  • Seimi Johnson finished in 5th place in the Boys U-8 60m final. He was the only U-8 athlete from the club to represent Louth at the event.

  • Dani Nolan finished in 5th place in the Girls U-15 100m Hurdle final.

  • Michael Iloduba finished in 6th place in the Boys U-16 100m final.

The Girls U-14 relay team, consisting of Emily Cooney, Eve Russell, Eabha Ashwood, and Cora Breach, advanced to the semi-final where they placed fifth. Other notable performances came from Aine Mc Hugh, Emily Cooney, and Lilly Fitzharris.
