Building rubble, including what looks like asbestos sheeting, discovered by Cllr. Eric Donovan near the Barnattin Reservoir.

Perpetrators should be ‘ashamed of themselves’

Illegal dumping of rubbish in ditches and fields around our beautiful green countryside is not a new phenomenon but you would have thought that by now the message would have filtered through that this is a thoroughly despicable act of vandalism, but apparently not.

This week Sinn Féin Councillor Eric Donovan has said the individuals who dumped building materials down a laneway at Balgetheran, Tullyallen should be ‘ashamed of themselves’.

Cllr Donovan was concerned over the dumping of the building materials near the Barnattin Reservoir saying “how do we know these materials don’t contain asbestos or other harmful products?

“This dumping was most likely from a van who couldn’t be bothered driving to the recycling centre and disposing of them safely and appropriately.

“To dump items like this and expect the Council to clean it up from its tight budget is depriving other services from much needed funds. It shows a total disregard for the local community.

“If you recognise these materials or if you saw something suspicious please notify Louth County Council or An Garda Síochana.”

“This is our community, let’s work together to keep it clean and free from illegal dumping.”
