On Saturday, February 1st, a campaign took place in Drogheda to gather signatures to a petition calling on the Irish Government to enact the Occupied Territories Bill as a response to the carnage and genocide that continues to unfold in Palestine.
Over a few hours, a thousand signatures were gathered from the people of Drogheda. Since then, the petition was presented in person to elected representatives from Labour, Sinn Féin, Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil TDs calling on them to support the wishes of the people in Drogheda who seek justice and peace.
Following on from that initiative, the local solidarity group met with Louth TDs Ged Nash, Ruairí Ó Murchú and Joanna Byrne in Leinster House on Wednesday of this week (April 2nd) to discuss the implementation of the Occupied Territories Bill.
For too long and very frustratingly, both Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael have delayed the enactment of the bill even though they both promised to bring it forward in their parties’ recent election manifestos.

All Oireachtas members from Louth were invited to the discussion and Drogheda Stands with Palestine plans to further engage with them to ensure that their promises are kept and that Ireland adheres to International Law.
“It is never too late to do the right thing but kicking the political can is no longer tenable as the clear breaches of International Humanitarian law continues apace” said a spokesperson.
Anyone wishing to get involved in supporting the work of Drogheda Stands with Palestine can join their weekly vigils which take place every Saturday on the steps of St Peters on West Street at noon.
