The Office of Public Works (OPW) has announced that a new art exhibition by artist Erika Tyner showcasing the megalithic art at Knowth will open at the Brú na Bóinne Visitor centre on April 6.
Tyner has beautifully interpreted both the familiar and lesser known art on the kerbstones and orthostats of Knowth drawing inspiration from Ireland’s ancient landscape and folklore. Her research into early mark making, in collaboration with archaeology and heritage experts, has resulted in a stunning collection of artwork.
Using acrylics, pen and ink on high quality Fabriano fine art paper, Tyner has captured the essence of these ancient symbols with a carefully selected colour palette that reflects the pigments that may have been used almost 6,000 years ago.
“Here in the mythical landscape of the Túatha Dé Dannan, Dreamlines reaches back in time to reflect on our folklore and early visual art” Tyner said. “Our ancestors were all united in one monumental task, to celebrate life and honour the gifts of the sun and the gods. This exhibition honours the work of the neolithic artists who carved our earlies art on stone”.

On her website erikatyner.com Tyner says: "Our earliest mark making on the landscape has fascinated me ever since I visited Brú na Boinne as a child.
"Working with canvas and fine art paper using acrylics, watercolours, inks, pastels and charcoal, I endeavour to bring the wonder of these symbols picked on stone 5,000 years ago. My practice is grounded in archaeological research and site visits to digs on megalithic sites both in Ireland and Europe."
Dreamlines at Knowth exhibition will be inaugurated by Helena King of the Royal Irish Academy on 6 April 2025 and runs from 7 April to 30 June 2025.
The Visitor Centre is open daily. More information on opening times and directions can be found at www.heritageireland.ie
