John Joseph McBride's memorial stone in Mt Olivet Cemetery in Brockport, New York.
On 26th January we published the story of Termonfeckin born freedom fighter John J. McBride who, despite great work carried out in the USA in the cause of Irish freedom, has been forgotten by history.
Such was the response to that article that members of his family in New York are now seeking to connect with other relatives living in Ireland and have sent the following message:
John J. McBride (nicknamed Exile) was the son of Mathew McBride and Jane King who were married 28 May1844 at Termonfeckin.
Mathew McBride was born in 1814 in Knockbridge, in the townland of Ballinlough in the historical barony of Dundalk Upper County Louth to Patrick McBride and Catheirne Duggan.

John J. McBride left Ireland in Oct 1862 on account of his Republican activities. John went out to his uncle James McBride and his family members in Monroe County, New York.
In March 1866, Exile brought his father over where he died from sunstroke three months later on 17 July 1866. In 1867 Exile brought his widowed mother, four brothers and two sisters over to Monroe County New York, where they established their homes.
