The annual Trim 10 Mile Road Race tempted a huge cohort of Drogheda's finest road runners on Sunday morning when some of the best distance athletes in the country joined some 1800 lining up at the start line just off the Athboy Road entrance to Eamonn Duggan Industrial Estate in bright spring conditions, perfect for road running.

Colin Leonard was the first finisher for D&DAC, running the 10 miles in an impressive 54:22, finishing in 7th position and claiming the 1st male over 40 prize. Colin was delighted with such a strong performance so early in the new year, and no doubt on his way to another terrific season.

Next home was John Breen, who stuck to his race plan and accomplished a new personal best time of 58:30. Colm Reilly had a solid 1:03:42m, fantastic running from both Joe Hammel (1:04:18) and Colm Prone (1:04:35) PB's for both.

Excellent performances also from Fatih Zitouche (1:05:58) and Roisin McGeough (1:15:23). Well done to Nuala Reilly on her category prize winning time of 1:23:26.

Drogheda and District were very well represented in yesterday’s North Leinster Schools Cross Country Championships where the standout performance of the day came in the Junior Girls 2000m race where Beatrice Cunningham finished a magnificent 7th to qualify for the Leinster finals. Eleanor Mc Mahon had a great run In the Girls Minor race finishing 15th she also qualifies for the Leinster's.

Colin Leonard.

Also representing the club were:

  • Junior Girls, Masie Kate Eustace Reynolds, Aoife Stone
  • Intermediate Girls, Aine Carroll, Emily Rose
  • Intermediate Boys, Thomas Mc Hugh
  • Senior Girls, Niamh Carroll

The North Leinster Schools is a great occasion and an incredibly tough environment so a very well done and congratulations to everyone.

Well done to Dearbhla Johnston, Eve Cunningham and Dylan Foley for competing in horrendous conditions at Glenmore on Sunday 26th January.

Dearbhla finished in a brilliant 3rd position in the U12 race with Eve and Dylan putting in really strong performances in the U12 and U14 races. Cross country doesn’t get much tougher than that.

On Saturday, Pol O Murchu completed the IMRA Howth winter race in 38:38
