The third annual “Boxing Clever” programme was launched last week at The Red Door Project in Drogheda.

The programme, supported by Louth County Council’s Healthy Ireland Fund, integrates boxing training with mental health support and QQI Level 5 Addiction Studies & Level 4 Health Related Fitness education and promotes a holistic approach to recovery that focuses on both physical and emotional well-being.

The initiative was set up in response to a county-wide consultation by Healthy Louth, which identified a need for more comprehensive mental health and addiction recovery services.

Over the coming months, participants will engage in structured learning, physical training, and personal growth activities designed to build confidence, resilience, and community connections.

Paula Keenan, Healthy Ireland Coordinator with Louth County Council, said: “This is the third year that Healthy Louth has supported the Boxing Clever Programme, and each year we’ve seen the real and lasting impact it has on participants.

“From progressing into further education and securing employment to building confidence and resilience, the programme continues to open doors for those taking part.

“It’s fantastic to see how physical activity, education, and mental well-being come together in such a meaningful way”

A huge thank you to The Red Door Project and all involved in making this initiative possible. Best of luck to this year’s group – we can’t wait to see what they achieve!
