Dylan Brady powers to victory in a field of 154 in 2025 Boyne Swim

Under glorious sunshine and clear skies, the 2025 Boyne Swim took place on Saturday, July 12th, in Association with Aura Leisure, attracting 154 swimmers from across Ireland to Drogheda for what is now considered one of the country’s most iconic open water events.

Swimmers took to the historic River Boyne in pursuit of the Ronan Halpin-designed trophies, commissioned by Drogheda Port Company, in a day marked by incredible performances and strong local representation.

Sixteen-year-old Dylan Brady of Drogheda Swim Club (above), stormed to victory with an exceptional time of 33 minutes and 9 seconds. Hailing from Donore, Co. Meath, Dylan began his day with a 4am start to train for two hours at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin, before returning home to dominate the swim.

Drogheda’s Olympian Colin Lowth followed in a time of 37 minutes and 56 seconds, with Drogheda Water Polo Club member Duncan Mullaney next in 38 minutes and 18 seconds. He was followed by another 16-year-old local star, Ethan James, also of Drogheda Swim Club, who completed the race in 38 minutes and 46 seconds.

Winner of the female category in the Boyne Swim, Nora Vedder, is presented with her trophy by Nessa Lally of Drogheda Port Company.

In the female category, Nora Vedder was the first female swimmer to cross the finish line, recording an impressive time of 42 minutes and 45 seconds.

In the female minor category, local youth talent shone brightly as Aimee Rice (16) from Drogheda Swim Club claimed gold with a time of 46 minutes and 33 seconds, followed by her clubmate Maria Carton, who earned silver in 48 minutes and 2 seconds.

The winner of the female minor category, Aimee Rice, is presented with her award by Cyril Sullivan of Drogheda Port Company.

It’s clear that the future of swimming in Drogheda is exceptionally bright, with such depth of local young talent and unwavering dedication on display, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Drogheda has a few more future Olympians already in our midst - watch this space!

The Boyne Swim continues to be a celebration of swimming excellence, community pride and Drogheda’s rich maritime heritage. Drogheda Triathlon Club, with support from Aura Leisure, Drogheda Port Company, Louth County Council and the Boyne Fishermen, have cemented the event's place as a standout fixture in Ireland’s open water swimming calendar.
