Ace AC's Lorcan Forde Dunne has been selected to represent Ireland at the upcoming German European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) Trials in Wetzlar Germany.
The young U18 athlete continues to impress on the national stage and has already achieved the EYOF 1500m qualification standard. Although he has achieved the standard twice there are still no guarantees he will make the team, as numbers are very limited through several different sports, however he's in with a really good chance.
The competition in Wetzlar this weekend is seen as an important preparatory step ahead of the later this summer. Irish selectors have confirmed that all athletes who have already met the EYOF qualification standards in other events will travel.
The team will depart for Germany on June 6th and return on June 8th. As well as offering valuable international experience, the trials are being positioned as a key team-building exercise. With the EYOF featuring athletes from a range of sports, early opportunities for athletes to travel and compete together are viewed as vital for general preparation & team spirit ahead of final team selections.
