Not for the first time I am announcing my retirement and will definitely be ceasing work at the end of June.

I have enjoyed bringing you the news every day for the past 15 years but, as I approach my 73rd birthday I want to spend my time exploring other avenues and sharing adventures with my darling wife Jenny.

So, unless someone out there wishes to take over, Drogheda Life will be ceasing publication at the end of June.

I have been involved with newspapers and other branches of the media all my working life and was delighted when the opportunity came for me to open my own news outlet. Delighted but perhaps a bit naïve also. I soon found out that there is a lot I don’t know about running a business, it takes a lot of work and time!

After all the work I have put in building Drogheda Life up from nothing and establishing the brand, I am sad at the prospect of it closing down but time marches on at an accelerating pace as you get older.

I still believe that, in the right hands and with a bit of investment, Drogheda Life can be built up into a thriving business.

As traditional print newspapers struggle to survive in this digital age this could be the chance for some younger and more energetic person, someone with more business savvy than me, to carve out a future in publishing the news for Ireland’s largest town.

If this is a challenge that you think you might relish, please get in touch with me at andy.spearman@gmail.com and we can talk it over. I can help you get started and point out some of the areas that I know need attention.
