Romanian people around the world are allowed to vote in national elections so, when Mayor of Drogheda, Cllr Paddy Mc Quillan was asked by the Romanian Ambassador to Ireland, Laurentiu-Mihai Stefan recently for assistance with their upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, he more than happy to assist.

Romanian people around the world are allowed to vote in national elections and their government even has a Minister for the Diaspora.

McQuillan and Director of Services for Louth County Council Joe Mc Guinness agreed that the new Civic Offices in Fair Street would be perfect for their requirements.

“I invited Ambassador Stefan to visit Drogheda and view the facilities. The Ambassador was extremely pleased with the facilities. Up to 2000 members of the Romanian diaspora will take part in the elections on a number of dates later in the year.  

“On his visit the Ambassador enjoyed a walk around Drogheda visiting St Laurence's Gate and the Highlanes Gallery.”

“Facilitating this request for assistance strengthens our relations with the Romanian Embassy. Drogheda has always welcomed and assisted other countries in the past and will do so in the future.

“Drogheda is a proud intercultural community involving a tapestry of many cultures. It is our honour to accommodate the needs of the Romanian community in Drogheda to support their democracy in action.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Executive of Louth County Council for their assistance and commitment” Mayor Mc Quillan stated.
