Council invite expressions of interest for Chairperson of new Local Community Safety Partnership

Front Page

Louth County Council has announced a call for Expressions of Interest for the position of Chairperson of the newly established Local Community Safety Partnership (LCSP).

This initiative aligns with the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024, reflecting the commitment to a comprehensive approach to community safety.

The Government, through the Department of Justice, has approved a transformative community safety policy, founded on a key principle from the 2018 Commission on the Future of Policing report: community safety is a shared responsibility. This policy emphasises a whole-of-government approach, integrating various agencies such as health and social services alongside traditional policing.

The LCSP will convene relevant state services and community representatives at the local authority level, enhancing the collaborative efforts previously seen in Joint Policing Committees. This holistic forum will address community priorities through inclusive discussions and decisions, reflecting the diverse needs of the community.

The LCSP will develop a Local Community Safety Plan based on public consultations, ensuring the community's voice is central to safety initiatives. Membership will include residents, community representatives (including youth, new communities, and the voluntary sector), business and education representatives, and public services such as HSE, Tusla, An Garda Síochána, and local councillors. The LCSP will have a maximum of thirty members.

The Chairperson will lead the LCSP, ensuring its effectiveness and guiding the development and implementation of community safety plans. They will also have the authority to establish subgroups focused on specific issues or areas, fostering targeted and efficient actions.

This voluntary position offers a three-year term.

Expressions of Interest are invited from individuals with relevant expertise and at an appropriately senior level. The ideal candidates will demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, a commitment to community engagement, and the ability to drive collaborative safety initiatives.
