Drogheda United has announced the signing of midfielder Shane Farrell from Shelbourne for whom the 24-year-old made over 170 appearances  since joining from Finglas United in 2018, including 17 appearances in the Premier Division this season.

“Shane’s a player I’ve tried to sign a couple of times. He’s a player I know well, and can play in a couple of positions, and has proper experience at this level,” manager Kevin Doherty said.

“He’s played against us and done well against us over the last few years. He knows a lot of the players, and he’ll fit right in. He’s exactly the type of player we need to come into the squad at the moment. I’m delighted that he’s here,” Doherty explained.

There are a number of familiar faces in the squad for Farrell, who has played alongside Andrew Quinn, Conor Kane and Ryan Brennan in recent seasons.

“I’m very grateful for Kevin getting in contact with me, and hopefully I can pay him and the club back on the pitch for the chance,” Farrell said.

“I’ve played with a few of the lads before. I’m very close with Ryan Brennan, I had a great relationship with Andy Quinn at Shels and Conor Kane too, and he’s my driver now here at Drogheda!

“I’m coming in to Drogheda now to try to help the club to stay in the league, that’s why Kevin brought me in.  Everytime I have played here, the ground has been bouncing with the fans, it’s sold out every week, so I can’t wait,” Farrell continued.
