Anthony Murphy of Mythical Ireland will be leading a tour of Newgrange Farm and Archaeological Park and Newgrange Chamber on August 20th. 

Summer time and the livin’ is easy, fish are jumping and the cotton is high. Okay, the weather hasn’t been great up until a fortnight ago, but there is an extraordinary variety of activities, festivals and events taking place in the Drogheda region over the next six weeks to keep us diverted.

August

Mythical Ireland-Newgrange Farm & Archaeological Park & Newgrange Chamber Tour

20th August - Anthony Murphy of Mythical Ireland, who discovered a giant Late Neolithic henge at Newgrange Farm in 2018 and who has studied the monuments and mythology of Brú na Bóinne for 25 years, will lead the tours.  

Participants will join Anthony on a specially modified tractor-hauled trailer for a tour of the many monuments of Newgrange Farm, including passage-tombs, henges, standing stones and other remarkable features of the ancient past. Website: www.mythicalireland.com 

History and Heritage walking tour

21st August - Community Historian Brendan Matthews will present this free History and Heritage walking tour in partnership with the Highlanes Gallery. Starting at 7:30pm at Georges Square.  Website: www.highlanes.ie

Free access to Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre

17th to 25th August - During Heritage week, the Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre is offering free access to anyone who uses the Local Link 163 service from Drogheda to travel to Oldbridge.  Website: https://www.transportforireland.ie/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/TFI-LL-R163-FA-WEB.pdf

Love Drogheda Family Fun Days “Dinosaurs and Aliens”

24th August, St Peter’s West Street - Free family fun day on West Street from 12pm to 4pm, featuring a dinosaur show, dinosaur interaction, Stitch and Toy Story alien character interaction, balloon modelling, face painting and photo opportunities. Website: www.lovedrogheda.ie

Farmer’s Market-Battle of The Boyne Oldbridge

Seán Corcoran Series - Traditional & Multidisciplinary Arts Festival

6th to 8th September - The Seán Corcoran Series returns to the heart of Drogheda’s historic walled town with a vibrant three-day programme of the finest in traditional and multi-disciplinary arts including - traditional music, arabic cello, concerts, food, singing session, zines, coffee, mumming, traditional crafts, recitals, childrens' events, film, poetry, talks, community history, field recording, herbs, workshops, nature, readings and the Irish debut of Palestinian Cellist Naseem Alatrash.

Boyne Valley Trails September Walking Festival

15th to 22nd September - An 8 day festival of history tours, family friendly ambles, Nordic Walking classes, Myths and Legends guided tours, Whiskey walking tour and nature hikes and more including the iconic Boyne Camino. Explore the beauty of the Boyne Valley from the historic town of Drogheda, the gateway to the Boyne Valley. Culture Night

20th September - A night of free cultural events that take place throughout the country.
