Donations still coming in 

The 2023 Drogheda Homeless Aid annual Christmas Sleepout, which took place on Saturday 2nd December, has raised the magnificent sum of €50,000 with donations still coming in. 

Speaking at the launch of the event in November the DHA Chairperson, Reverend Iain Jamieson, said that “Although most people know us well and know what we do, it’s no harm to raise the profile, not just for the sake of the money although it is important but also to raise awareness of the issue of homelessness.

“There are many reasons why people become homeless and it is important that there is an organisation in place as a safety net.”

“The doors at our hostel in North Strand and our transition houses in Louth and Meath are open to all and we are always available to help out wherever we can. 

“Our resources are stretched and we need all the help we can get so, if you have a few hours to help us or make a donation, we would appreciate a call to our hostel 041 9834492”, he said.

As well as its services for homeless people, DHA also provides the Meal on Wheels service for Drogheda and its surrounding areas, supporting the elderly and those most vulnerable in the community.

This service is provided three days a week, serving over 65 households at present with clients referred by the HSE and public health nurse and community participants.

Taking to Facebook yesterday a DHA spokesperson said: “The people of Drogheda have shown staggering support and kindness. 

“Thank you to all the Volunteers, Sleepers, Musicians, Choirs, local businesses and Staff that have come out in force on our behalf. We are overwhelmed with gratitude.”
