Saint Peter's Church of Ireland at the top of Peter Street stands on a site that has been a centre of Christian worship for over 800 years in which time it has become an important feature of the town’s heritage.
The “new” church, which replaced a larger Gothic building on the same site, was opened in 1753 and there are the remains of much older buildings in the church grounds possibly dating as far back as the thirteenth century.
That information will no doubt be of interest to the historians among us but, more importantly, St Peter's is holding their Charity Summer Fair again this year on Saturday 28th June from 12 noon to 3pm.
This event is greatly anticipated each year and has now become an annual fundraiser with all proceeds going to two worthy local charities, Drogheda Women's & Children's Refuge and Drogheda Homeless Aid.

The Close of St Peter's Church of Ireland at the top of Peters Street will be taken over for the afternoon by stalls selling Cakes, Plants and Vegetables, White Elephant, Crafts and Upcycling, and the all-important raffle.
Full Afternoon Teas will also be a feature at the fair. All are welcome and entrance is free. Please come and join in the fun and support these deserving local charities.
While you’re there take the opportunity to have a look around the graveyard, it’s fascinating but a bit spooky, especially the famous cadaver stones on the back wall.
